E04

Massey Ferguson E04 – ATC / Various: Incomplete Fault Code Prefix / ATC Control Potentiometer Defect

Issue description

E04 is not a complete fault code on its own; it acts as a prefix or menu indicator requiring a secondary number to form the full code. In the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system, it indicates a possible defect in the control potentiometer, causing the system to default to 22 °C (72 °F).

Applies to these machines

  • 4707
  • 4708
  • 4709
  • 4710
  • T4 (2015-2021)
  • MF7600 Series

Check the cause

  1. Read the full code by noting the 3- or 4-digit number displayed directly below the E04 prefix on the instrument cluster

  2. Look up the combined full code (e.g., XXXX.XX) in a Massey Ferguson service manual or fault database to find the actual component failure

  3. If E04 is flashing on the climate control screen (ATC system cause): Test the resistance of the temperature control potentiometer for dead spots or an open circuit

Repair steps

  1. Remove the climate control panel

If diagnosing the MF7600 ATC E04 code, begin by removing the climate control panel.

  2. Disconnect the potentiometer harness

Disconnect the harness connected to the potentiometer.

  3. Replace the defective control potentiometer

Replace the defective control potentiometer to resolve the ATC E04 code.
