E08

Massey Ferguson E08 – ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) unit / Climatronic ECU: Evaporator Temperature Sensor Defect

Issue description

The A/C compressor is not working and the system requires maintenance due to a detected defect in the evaporator temperature sensor or an issue with its associated cable harness.

Applies to these machines

  • 4707
  • 4708
  • 4709

Check the cause

  1. Locate the evaporator temperature sensor within the HVAC/evaporator housing and perform a visual inspection.

  2. Inspect the cable harness and connectors leading to the evaporator temperature sensor for any signs of chafing, broken wires, or loose connections.

  3. Test the sensor's resistance with a multimeter to see if it is open or short-circuited.

  4. Verify the continuity of the wiring harness from the sensor connector back to the ATC control module to rule out a broken wire.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.

  2. Access the HVAC Unit

Remove the necessary cab interior panels or the roof cap to access the evaporator core housing.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged insulation on the harness connecting the ATC module to the sensor, repair the wiring using appropriate automotive-grade connectors and heat shrink.

  4. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is intact but the sensor failed the resistance test, carefully pull the faulty evaporator temperature sensor out of the evaporator core fins.

  5. Install New Part

Insert the new evaporator temperature sensor into the core. Route the wiring securely, using zip ties if necessary, to prevent future chafing against moving parts or sharp edges.

  6. Reassembly

Reassemble the HVAC housing and reinstall all cab panels.

  7. System Test

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and turn on the ATC system. Verify that the E08 code clears from the dash and that the A/C compressor clutch engages properly to provide cold air.
