Massey Ferguson E100 – Engine ECU (EEM): Engine Oil Pressure or Oil Pressure Sensor Circuit

Issue description

Indicates an issue with the Engine Oil Pressure or the Oil Pressure Sensor circuit. Depending on the specific FMI sub-code, the underlying condition can be mechanical (actual abnormal pressure) or electrical (sensor/wiring failure). The ECU stores the fault, activates the dashboard warning lamp, and will often initiate an automatic engine shutdown to prevent catastrophic engine damage.

Check the cause

  1. Check the engine oil level and condition to ensure it is not too hot, diluted by fuel, or of the incorrect grade. Inspect the oil filter for clogs.

  2. Inspect the oil pressure sensor wiring, connectors, and contact surfaces for oxidation, corrosion, or damage.

  3. Perform a 10 lb (45 N) pull test on each wire in the ECM connector and the sensor connectors to check for loose pins or open circuits.

  4. Hook up a manual mechanical oil pressure gauge to the engine block to verify actual oil pressure against the sensor's electronic readings.

  5. Test operation with a known good oil pressure sensor to determine if the original sensor is defective.

Repair steps

  1. Address Mechanical Faults

    If the mechanical gauge confirms low oil pressure, the issue is internal. You will need to replace the oil filter, check the oil pressure control valve, or replace the engine oil pump.

  2. Address Electrical Faults

    If the mechanical gauge shows healthy pressure, the sensor or wiring is at fault.

  3. Replace the Sensor

    Disconnect the wiring harness from the oil pressure sensor. Unthread the old sensor from the engine block. Clean the threads on the block. Apply a small dab of thread sealant to the new sensor (if not pre-applied) and thread it in. Do not overtighten, as these sensors are easily damaged by excessive torque.

  4. Clear the ECU

    Reconnect the wiring harness. Using an AGCO EDT diagnostic tool (or equivalent), save the error log and then erase it.

  5. Restart and Verify

    Restart the ECU and run the tractor through a driving cycle to ensure the E100 code does not return.
