Massey Ferguson E110 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor / Engine Overheating

Indicates an issue with the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor or an actual engine overheating condition. The ECU may derate engine power to protect the engine from overheating damage.

• Tractors utilizing AGCO SISU POWER engines

   Check the engine coolant fluid level

   Inspect the condition of the vent lattices, radiator fins, and cooling package for external blockages (dust, chaff, dirt) or internal scaling that could cause genuine overheating

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the coolant temperature sensor to the Engine ECU for rubbed wires, corrosion at the connector, or pinched lines

   Cool Down

   Ensure the tractor engine has completely cooled down before opening the cooling system or handling engine block sensors to prevent severe burns.

   Clear Blockages

   If the code was E110 0 or 16, thoroughly blow out the radiator, intercooler, and vent lattices with compressed air. Top off the coolant if it is low.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the engine coolant temperature sensor, which is typically threaded into the engine block or cylinder head near the thermostat housing.

   Test the Sensor

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector. Using a multimeter, check the resistance across the sensor pins. If the sensor reads completely open (infinite resistance) or dead shorted at room temperature, the thermistor has failed internally.

   Replace the Sensor

   Unthread the faulty sensor. Have the new sensor ready to thread in immediately to minimize coolant loss. Tighten to OEM torque specifications.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn on the ignition and use a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive E110 fault codes from the Engine ECU. Run the tractor and verify the temperature gauge reads normally.
