Massey Ferguson E1136.E – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU): There Is A Problem With The Engine Module Internal Temperature Sensor

The controller has detected that its internal temperature is out of specification (extremely or moderately high), or the internal temperature sensor's signal/voltage is invalid.

   Check airflow around the Engine ECU housing to verify proper circulation

   Inspect cooling systems and ensure radiator grilles are clean for sufficient fan air supply

   Check the engine cooling fan operation; a slow fan can cause ambient temperatures under the hood to spike, overheating the ECU

   Turn off the engine and allow the ECU to cool down completely to see if the fault clears

   Inspect the main wiring harness connectors at the ECU for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could cause a short or voltage irregularity (especially if sub-codes .03 or .04 are present)

   Isolate the ECU

   Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove the ECU

   Unplug the main harness connectors and unbolt the Engine ECU from its mounting bracket.

   Determine Repair vs. Replace

   The internal temperature sensor is soldered directly onto the ECU's internal circuit board and cannot be serviced as a standalone part. You must either send the ECU to a specialized agricultural electronics repair facility for board-level repair, or replace the entire Engine ECU.

   Install the New/Remanufactured ECU

   Mount the new ECU and reconnect the wiring harnesses.

   Programming

   A new or remanufactured ECU will require programming. You must contact a Massey Ferguson dealer to flash the ECU with the correct software configuration for your tractor's specific serial number.
