Massey Ferguson E9006 – Instrument Panel Control Unit (Dash): Faulty CAN-bus of the tractor
Issue description
The Controller Area Network (CAN) bus has crashed due to a short circuit, a broken wire, or a faulty module pulling the network down, resulting in a loss of communication with major modules like the Engine ECU or Transmission Control Module.

Check the cause
Perform a visual harness inspection for chafing, breaks, or moisture ingress, particularly near the engine, transmission, and articulation points.
Verify battery voltage and inspect all main chassis grounds, as poor grounding is a leading cause of CAN bus instability.
With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port (60 ohms is healthy, 120 ohms indicates a break or failed terminating resistor, 0 ohms indicates a short).
If equipped with aftermarket GPS or AutoSteering (e.g., SRC14-34 controller), disconnect the steering controller to see if it is causing the communication crash.
If the bus is shorted (0 ohms), disconnect modules (Engine ECU, Transmission ECU, etc.) one by one. If the 60-ohm resistance returns after unplugging a specific module, that module is internally shorted.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Locate the Fault
Using the results from your module isolation and resistance tests, pinpoint the exact location of the short or break.
Repair Wiring
If a wire is broken or chafed, cut out the damaged section. Splice in new wiring using proper CAN bus repair techniques (wires must be twisted at a rate of about 1 twist per inch to prevent electromagnetic interference). Solder the connections and seal them with dual-wall adhesive heat shrink.
Clean Connectors
If the fault was caused by moisture or corrosion in a connector, clean the pins thoroughly with contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting.
Replace Faulty Components
If a specific module (like the Engine ECU) or a terminating resistor was found to be internally shorted, replace it.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use an AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or equivalent dealer laptop software to clear the E9006 code and any sympathetic codes that were triggered by the network crash.
Test Drive
Run the tractor through its normal operating parameters to ensure the CAN bus remains stable and the code does not return.
