Massey Ferguson E9022 – Engine Electronic Module (EEM4) / Engine Control Unit (ECU): Failure of 5V DC power supply

Indicates an issue with the 5 V DC supply 2 circuit. Depending on the FMI, it presents as a LOW fault (short to ground or open circuit) or HIGH fault (short to battery voltage/power), meaning the 5-volt reference voltage generated by the control module has dropped out of its expected range.

• Tractors utilizing AGCO Power / Sisu Tier 3 and Tier 4 engines

   Check battery terminals, ECU main relay, and fuses for shorts to ensure proper voltage and ground.

   Perform a sensor isolation (drop-out) test: disconnect sensors on the 5V Supply 2 circuit one at a time while monitoring the 5V line with a multimeter. If 5V returns, the disconnected sensor is internally shorted.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness for chafing, rubbing, or melted insulation that could cause the 5V wire to short against the chassis (ground) or a 12V wire.

   Disconnect the harness from the EEM4/ECU and test the 5V output pin directly at the module to verify if the ECU has suffered an internal failure.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal before servicing the electrical system.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a chafed wire in the harness, cut out the damaged section, solder in a new piece of wire, and seal it with dual-wall heat shrink. Reroute the harness away from hot engine components or sharp chassis edges.

   Replace Sensor

   If a specific sensor was pulling down the 5V reference, remove the faulty sensor, install the OEM replacement, and torque to specification. Reconnect the pigtail.

   Replace/Reprogram ECU

   If the ECU is internally damaged and failing to produce the 5V reference, remove the ECU mounting bolts and disconnect the main harness connectors. Install the replacement ECU. Note: A new or remanufactured ECU will require dealer-level software (AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to flash the correct firmware and parameter files for your specific tractor.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the E9022 code. Start the tractor and verify the code does not return.
