Massey Ferguson E9024 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4 controller: Water in fuel sensor / Supply of sensor detecting water in the fuel

Fault code E9024 indicates a malfunction related to the 'Water in fuel sensor' or the 'Supply of sensor detecting water in the fuel'. This sensor monitors the fuel filter/water separator to alert the operator when water needs to be drained from the fuel system. Sub-codes include E9024 16 (Supply voltage ABOVE NORMAL) and E9024 18 (Supply voltage BELOW NORMAL).

   Check the error log, erase it, and restart the ECU to see if the fault returns during the next driving cycle

   Inspect the water in fuel sensor wiring, connectors, and contact surfaces for oxidation, corrosion, or physical damage

   Test operation with a known-good water in fuel sensor to determine if the current sensor is defective

   Check the ECU operation with another EEM4 controller to rule out a module failure if the sensor and wiring are intact

   Drain the Water Separator

   Locate the fuel filter/water separator assembly. Open the drain valve at the bottom to release any accumulated water. Close the valve once pure diesel flows out.

   Inspect and Clean

   Disconnect the 3-pin connector at the water in fuel sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner to remove any oxidation. Reconnect and test.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the fault persists and wiring tests good, unscrew the defective water in fuel sensor from the bottom of the fuel filter housing and install a new one.

   Clear Codes

   Connect your diagnostic service tool, erase the error log, and restart the ECU.

   Verify Repair

   Run the tractor through a standard driving cycle to ensure the E9024 code does not return.
