Massey Ferguson E9035 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Normal recovery

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) performed a self-reset because an illegal operation occurred during software execution, or the execution time for a specific operation exceeded its limit. The system successfully recovered.

   Verify that the engine is currently running normally, as the code implies the ECU successfully recovered from the software timeout.

   Check for other active fault codes that may have triggered the initial ECU software hang or reset.

   Monitor for code E9036 ('Full restart after three recoveries within 2 seconds') which indicates the ECU is stuck in a continuous reset loop.

   Inspect battery voltage, battery terminals, and the main ECU relay connections for momentary drops in voltage or loose grounds.

   Contact a dealer to verify if the ECU is running the latest software calibration.

   Clear the Code

   Connect your diagnostic tool, document the freeze-frame data, and clear the E9035 fault code.

   Test Drive / Operate

   Run the machine under normal load to see if the code returns. If it does not return, the event was an isolated software anomaly and no further repair is needed.

   Update ECU Software

   If the code returns frequently, the ECU software is likely encountering a recurring logic error. Have an authorized dealer reflash the Engine ECU with the latest software update.

   Replace the ECU

   If power and grounds are perfectly stable, the software is up to date, and the ECU continues to drop out and log E9035/E9036 reset codes, the internal processor of the ECU is failing and the module must be replaced.
