The camshaft speed sensor signal is missing, defective, or found to be out of phase when compared to the crankshaft speed sensor.

   Check the sensor's electrical connector and wiring harness for breaks, corrosion, or short circuits (a reverse-connected harness throws E9082).

   Verify that the ECU is sending the correct reference voltage (typically 5V or 12V) to the sensor.

   Verify that the crankshaft speed sensor is functioning correctly, as a failing crank sensor can cause a phase evaluation error that flags the cam sensor.

   Check for rapid engine speed changes caused by rough engine running, fuel supply issues, or misfiring, which can trick the ECU into reading an erratic camshaft speed.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts or accidental engine cranking.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the camshaft speed sensor, which is mounted directly on the engine's timing gear housing.

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the standard Massey Ferguson electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove the Sensor

   Remove the retaining bolt/fastener holding the sensor to the timing gear housing. Pull the sensor straight out.

   Inspect the Housing

   Look into the mounting hole to inspect the camshaft trigger wheel for any missing teeth, debris, or excessive metal shavings that could disrupt the magnetic field.

   Install the New Sensor

   Insert the replacement camshaft speed sensor into the housing. Secure it with the retaining bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a diagnostic tool (such as AGCO's SERDIA tool) or the instrument panel interface to clear the E9080 fault code from the EEM. Run the engine to verify the code does not return.
