E9081

Massey Ferguson E9081 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Engine Management (EEM): Camshaft Speed Sensor

Issue description

The system is unable to detect a valid signal from the camshaft sensor, meaning the signal is either missing, invalid, or the sensor is reverse-connected.

Applies to these machines

  • 4700 series (4707, 4708, 4709, 4710)
  • T4 models (2015-2021)
  • 5400 series
  • 6100 series
  • 6400 series
  • 7400 series
  • 7600 series
  • 8400 series
  • 8600 series
  • 7256
  • MF 9305

Check the cause

  1. Check the sensor wiring harness for defects, specifically looking for reversed signal lines, open circuits, or shorts

  2. Inspect the camshaft trigger wheel for physical defects or damage

  3. Test operation by temporarily installing a known-good camshaft speed sensor to determine if the original sensor is defective

Repair steps

  1. Locate

Locate the camshaft speed sensor on the engine block/front cover.

  2. Disconnect

Carefully unplug the electronic engine management connector from the sensor.

  3. Remove

Remove the retaining fastener. (Note: OEM torque specifications for speed sensors on these engine covers are typically an M6 bolt torqued to 8 ± 2 Nm / 5.9 ± 1.47 lb-ft).

  4. Inspect

Pull the sensor out and visually inspect the trigger wheel through the mounting port.

  5. Install

Insert the replacement camshaft speed sensor and secure it with the fastener, adhering strictly to the torque wrench settings specified.

  6. Reconnect

Reconnect the wiring harness, turn on the machine, and use the WinEEM3s/EEM4 Service Tool to clear the stored fault code and verify that the warning lamp deactivates.
