E9132

Massey Ferguson E9132 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Malfunction of the fuel injector No. 2

Issue description

The engine control system has detected an electrical or mechanical failure in the second cylinder's fuel injector (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or current level error). When this code is triggered, the machine typically enters an emergency 'limp home' mode, which limits engine power to 60% and restricts the maximum engine speed to 1500 rpm to prevent further damage.

Applies to these machines

  • 8600 Series Tractors (8650, 8660, 8670, 8680, 8690)
  • Centora Combines (7280, 7282)
  • Delta Combines (9280)
  • 9500 Series (9520, 9530)

Check the cause

  1. Verify the battery voltage and ensure the battery terminals are secure and free from dirt, as voltage irregularities can cause false electrical faults.

  2. Check the fuel level in the tank and inspect all fuel lines for physical damage or leaks.

  3. Check for water in the fuel system sump/water separator.

  4. Inspect the condition of the air and fuel filters to rule out starvation.

  5. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector specifically at Injector No. 2 for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  6. Contact your dealer to verify the exact electrical failure (e.g., fast decay error vs. open circuit) using an AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT).

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access

Remove the necessary engine side panels or hood components to access the engine valve cover and the common rail fuel system.

  3. Disconnection

Carefully disconnect the electrical harness connector from fuel injector No. 2.

  4. Fuel Line Removal

Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common rail to injector No. 2. Cap the rail and line fittings immediately to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

  5. Extraction

Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

  6. Cleaning

Thoroughly clean the injector bore in the cylinder head, ensuring no carbon or debris falls into the cylinder.

  7. Installation

Install the new injector using a new copper sealing washer and O-rings. Seat it into the bore and torque the hold-down clamp to the OEM specification.

  8. Reassembly

Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and plug in the electrical connector.

  9. ECU Coding (Crucial)

Using an AGCO diagnostic scan tool, you must enter the new injector's calibration code (printed on the top of the new Bosch injector) into the Engine ECU for cylinder No. 2. If the injector is not coded, it will not sync with the ECU and the engine will not run correctly.

  10. Testing

Reconnect the battery, prime the fuel system to remove air, start the engine, check for leaks, and clear the fault codes.
