E9134

Massey Ferguson E9134 – Engine ECU: Malfunction of the fuel injector No. 4

Issue description

Electrical or mechanical failure associated with the fourth cylinder's fuel injector. Indicates an anomaly such as an open circuit, a short circuit to ground, or an internal solenoid failure. Triggers an 'Emergency operation' (limp mode) limiting engine power to 60% and capping maximum engine speed at 1500 RPM.

Applies to these machines

  • Massey Ferguson 8600 Series
  • Massey Ferguson 8650
  • Massey Ferguson 8660
  • Massey Ferguson 8670
  • Massey Ferguson 8680
  • Massey Ferguson 8690
  • Massey Ferguson 8700 series
  • Massey Ferguson 9000 series combines

Check the cause

  1. Verify the E9134 code on the instrument cluster display

  2. Inspect the electrical connector and wiring at fuel injector No. 4 for loose pins, corrosion, or wire chafing that could cause an open circuit or short to ground

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the injector No. 4 solenoid terminals and compare the reading to a known good injector on the same engine

  4. Check battery terminals and grounds to ensure they are secure and free from dirt, as voltage irregularities can trigger false injector faults

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts and depressurize the fuel system.

  2. Access the Injector

Remove the engine covers/valve cover necessary to access the fuel rail and injector No. 4.

  3. Disconnect Lines & Wiring

Carefully unplug the electrical connector from injector No. 4. Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the fuel rail to the injector. Cap the rail fitting to prevent contamination.

  4. Remove the Injector

Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.

  5. Clean and Prep

Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed from the injector bore. Clean the bore thoroughly, ensuring no debris falls into the cylinder.

  6. Install New Injector

Fit a new copper sealing washer to the new injector. Insert the injector into the bore and torque the hold-down clamp to OEM specifications.

  7. Reassemble

Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector.

  8. Bleed and Clear

Reconnect the battery. Bleed the fuel system if required by the manual. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the E9134 fault code from the Engine ECU.

  9. Test Run

Start the tractor and verify that the 1500 RPM / 60% power limp mode has been deactivated.
