Massey Ferguson E9135 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Malfunction of the fuel injector No. 5
Issue description
When this fault is triggered, the system typically enters an emergency operation mode (limp mode) where engine power is limited to 60% and the maximum engine speed is restricted to 1500 rpm.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness to injector No. 5 for an open circuit (current below normal) or a short circuit (current above normal / short circuit between cables).
Verify that the injector calibration code is not missing or uncalibrated in the ECU.
Check the low-pressure fuel supply for blocked fuel filters, a weak lift pump, dirty fuel, or air leaks in the suction hoses, as fuel starvation can mimic complex component failures.
Ensure battery terminals are secure and free from dirt, and verify the battery voltage is sufficient (around 12.6V), as voltage drops can cause erratic ECU behavior.
Repair steps
Inspect and Test
Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the No. 5 injector and inspect its wiring harness for chafing or breaks.
Relieve Pressure
Ensure the engine is off and the high-pressure common rail fuel system is depressurized before opening any lines.
Remove the Faulty Injector
Disconnect the electrical connector and high-pressure fuel line from injector No. 5. Remove the injector hold-down clamp and extract the injector.
Install the New Injector
Install the replacement injector using a new sealing washer/O-ring. Torque the hold-down clamp and fuel lines to the specifications outlined in the Massey Ferguson service manual.
Bleed the Fuel System
Bleed the fuel system to remove any air pockets introduced during the repair.
Calibrate and Clear Codes
Enter the new injector's calibration code into the Engine ECU using a diagnostic tool. Finally, clear the E9135 error code from the system and test run the tractor to ensure the power limitation (60%) has been lifted.
