E9150

Massey Ferguson E9150 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel rail pressure / Rail pressure sensor

Issue description

The engine is detecting that the actual fuel pressure in the rail does not match the demanded pressure.

Applies to these machines

  • 8600 series
  • 7600 series
  • 6100 series
  • 5400 series

Check the cause

  1. Check fuel levels and quality to ensure the tank has sufficient fuel and is not starved.

  2. Inspect fuel filters for restrictions or clogs, which are the most common cause of unstable rail pressure.

  3. Visually inspect the high-pressure fuel lines, injector connections, and the fuel rail for physical leaks.

  4. Test the rail pressure sensor using a diagnostic tool (KOEO should read 0 psi or baseline) to check for skewed readings.

  5. Evaluate the high-pressure fuel pump for excessive wear causing negative deviation.

Repair steps

  1. Replace Fuel Filters

Replace both the primary and secondary fuel filters because contamination restricts flow and causes pressure deviations.

  2. Bleed the Fuel System

Ensure all air is purged from the low-pressure side of the fuel system after filter replacement.

  3. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the E9150 code using a diagnostic tool and test run the tractor under load.

  4. Inspect Wiring

If the code returns immediately, inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor for chafing, corrosion, or shorts.

  5. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is intact but the sensor is reporting skewed or erratic data (e.g., showing high pressure when the engine is off), relieve the fuel system pressure and replace the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor.

  6. Address the PRV / Pump

If the sensor is accurate but pressure is genuinely dropping or spiking, inspect the Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV) on the rail (which can stick open/closed) or test the high-pressure fuel pump for internal wear.
