Massey Ferguson E9234 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Sisu EEM: Module ID
Issue description
The ECU has lost communication with the ID module, or the module has malfunctioned, causing the ECU to limit engine power and speed.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Massey Ferguson 8600 Series
- MF 8670
- MF 8690
- Massey Ferguson 7600 Series
- Massey Ferguson 5400 Series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the ID module (X188) on the engine block to ensure it is present, securely mounted, and undamaged.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the ID module and the Sisu EEM unit for broken wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Verify the 5V reference supply and ground to the module.
Connect the WinEEM3 or EEM4 service tool to check for secondary codes (e.g., E9231 for engine serial number mismatch or E9236 for memory defect).
Repair steps
Perform temporary bypass (if needed)
If replacement is delayed, connect the WinEEM3 / EEM4 service tool, obtain a bypass code from the Sisu Diesel / AGCO service department, and enter the code to temporarily disable the power limits. WARNING: The bypass time is strictly limited (typically 200 to 400 hours) and can only be used once.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the tractor's battery.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty ID module (X188) on the engine block.
Remove old module
Unbolt and remove the old ID module.
Install new module
Mount the new ID module securely to the engine block and reconnect the harness.
Reconnect battery and service tool
Reconnect the battery and connect the WinEEM3 / EEM4 service tool.
Set engine hours
Navigate to the configuration tab to set the engine hours. Note: The service tool only allows you to add hours to match the actual engine hours; you cannot reduce them.
Clear codes and verify
Clear the fault codes and verify that the engine serial number matches the ECU.
