E9236

Massey Ferguson E9236 – Diagnostic ID Module: Diagnostic ID module. ID module additional memory defect.

Issue description

The Engine Identification Module (ID module) has detected an internal memory failure or defect, which typically triggers a fault code that limits engine power (limp mode) to protect the system.

Applies to these machines

  • Massey Ferguson 8600 Series (8650, 8690)
  • Massey Ferguson 7600 Series

Check the cause

  1. Check for related voltage codes (e.g., E9235 indicating voltage > 32.0V) or temperature spikes, which could have caused the memory to corrupt.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the ID module to the Engine ECU to ensure it is secure and free of corrosion or loose contacts.

  3. Verify if the ECU is throwing companion codes like E9231 (Engine serial number mismatch) or E9239 (Engine specification missing), which confirms the ECU can no longer read the memory of the ID module.

Repair steps

  1. Order the Correct Part

Order a new ID module using the exact Engine Serial Number of the tractor.

  2. Locate the Module

Locate the ID module (Component X188) on the engine harness.

  3. Remove and Replace

Disconnect the battery. Unplug the faulty ID module and securely attach the new one.

  4. Activation

Depending on the engine generation (e.g., EEM3 vs EEM4), the new ID module may require an activation procedure using the Massey Ferguson/AGCO diagnostic tool to pair it with the current ECU.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Diagnostic ID Module / Engine Identification Module

This part must be ordered specifically for your engine's serial number and motor number. Do not install a used ID module from another tractor, as it will trigger an 'ID not compatible with current ECU' (E9234) or 'Engine serial number mismatch' (E9231) fault.
