E9237

Massey Ferguson E9237 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Diagnostic ID module. ID module, monitoring reset

Issue description

The Engine Identification Module (ID module) has experienced a monitoring reset or internal malfunction, causing the ECU to limit engine power and speed.

Applies to these machines

  • Massey Ferguson 8600 Series (MF 8670, MF 8690)
  • Massey Ferguson 7600 Series
  • Massey Ferguson 6400 Series (MF 6499)

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying codes (such as E9235 or E9238) to determine if the issue is a power supply problem rather than a dead module.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness, pigtail, and connector for the X188 ID module for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Verify the ECU is sending the correct reference voltage (typically 5Vdc) to the module.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Module

Find the ID module bolted to the engine block near the main Engine Control Unit.

  2. Remove the Faulty Module

Disconnect the module from the engine wiring harness and unbolt it from the block.

  3. Order a Serial-Specific Replacement

Order the new ID module using the exact engine serial number so that it is programmed with the correct engine specifications and fuel mapping.

  4. Install the New Module

Bolt the new ID module securely to the engine block and plug it into the harness.

  5. Clear Codes

Turn the key on and use the tractor terminal (or AGCO EDT service tool) to clear the E9237 fault code.

  6. Emergency Bypass

If the tractor is stranded in the field, AGCO service tools can activate a 'Manual IDM bypass' state to temporarily restore engine power without the module.
