E9239

Massey Ferguson E9239 – Engine Identification Module (ID Module / IDM): Diagnostic ID module. Engine specification missing.

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) cannot read the engine specifications from the ID module. When this module malfunctions or loses its memory, the system typically activates a fault code that limits engine power (derate) to protect the engine.

Applies to these machines

  • 8600 series
  • 8650
  • 8670
  • 8690
  • 7600 series
  • 6400 series
  • 6499

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical connection and wiring harness between the ID module and the Engine ECU for loose pins, moisture, or corrosion that could interrupt CANbus communication.

  2. Check for accompanying fault codes such as E9240 (Engine serial number missing), E9235 (ID module memory fault), or E9231 (Engine serial number mismatch) which confirm the module has failed or lost its programming.

  3. Verify with a dealer if the tractor requires an Engine ECU software update (e.g., SB09-0118 to versions 1.5.0.0 or 2.5.0.0) to improve communication between the ID module and the ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Perform temporary bypass (Emergency Use Only)

If the tractor must be moved immediately, request a 32-character ByPass code from the Sisu Help Desk. Using the WinEEM3 or EDT service tool, disconnect the ID module and enter the code to temporarily disable the fault codes and power restrictions.

  2. Order the correct part

You must provide the exact engine serial number when ordering the new ID module, as it comes pre-programmed for that specific engine block.

  3. Disconnect battery

    Disconnect the tractor's battery.

  4. Locate ID module

Locate the ID module on the engine block near the ECU.

  5. Disconnect wiring

Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the faulty ID module.

  6. Remove old module

Unbolt and remove the old module.

  7. Install new module

Mount the new ID module securely to the engine block and reconnect the harness.

  8. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  9. Sync new module

Connect the WinEEM3 or AGCO EDT diagnostic service tool to the machine. The new ID module must be digitally coupled/synced to the current Engine ECU using the service tool to clear the mismatch codes.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Engine Identification Module (ID Module)

    V837073491

Do not swap ID modules between different tractors. The module is strictly tied to the engine serial number. Installing an ID module from another machine will result in an 'Engine specification mismatch' error.
