Massey Ferguson E9306 – IOM (Input/Output Module): PTO input signal error
Issue description
The control module is not receiving a valid, continuous, or expected electrical signal from the Power Take-Off (PTO) speed sensor or the PTO engagement circuit. The tractor's computer cannot verify the rotational speed or the engagement status of the PTO shaft.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear PTO housing. Check the sensor for physical damage and ensure it hasn't backed out of its threaded mounting hole.
Wiring & Connector Check: Disconnect the sensor harness. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins. Trace the wiring harness back toward the IOM to check for chafing, rodent damage, or pinched wires.
Clean the Sensor: Remove the sensor and wipe the magnetic tip clean of metallic shavings. Reinstall and test to see if the code clears.
Electrical Testing: Use a multimeter to check the sensor's resistance (many MF PTO sensors read around 540 Ohms). Verify continuity on the signal and ground wires between the sensor connector and the IOM.
Switch Verification: Ensure the in-cab and fender-mounted PTO ON/OFF switches are not sticking, as conflicting engagement signals can sometimes trigger IOM input errors.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key.
Locate the Sensor
Identify the PTO speed sensor located on the rear transmission/PTO housing.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Removal
Using the appropriate wrench, unthread and remove the faulty PTO speed sensor from the housing. Have a shop rag ready, as a small amount of hydraulic/transmission fluid may weep from the port.
Installation
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with a small amount of clean transmission fluid. Thread the new sensor into the housing and tighten it to the OEM torque specification (do not overtighten, as the sensor body can crack).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Test
Start the tractor. Navigate the instrument panel to verify the E9306 code has moved to an "inactive" state or cleared. Engage the PTO (safely, without an implement attached) to confirm the PTO RPM registers correctly on the dash.
