Massey Ferguson E9317 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Instrument Panel Control Unit: Data manager missing / DCU not present

A communication failure where the main computer cannot detect or communicate with the Dosing Control Unit (DCU).

   Check battery terminals to ensure they are secure, free from dirt, and providing the correct voltage, as low voltage can cause modules to drop off the CAN bus.

   Inspect the fuse box for blown fuses or faulty relays related to the SCR system, DEF pump, or DCU.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the Dosing Control Unit (DCU) for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins that could interrupt CAN bus communication.

   Power down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the DCU

   Locate the Dosing Control Unit, which is typically mounted near the DEF/AdBlue tank or the supply module.

   Test the circuit

   Using a multimeter, verify that the DCU connector is receiving proper power and ground. Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines for continuity back to the Engine ECU.

   Repair wiring

   If a break or short is found in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section and clear the codes.

   Replace the DCU

   If power, ground, and CAN lines are intact but the module remains unresponsive ('not present'), the DCU has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Dealer programming

   Contact your dealer. Installing a new DCU requires dealer-level diagnostic software to program the module to the tractor's specific ID and calibrate the SCR system.
