FA136

Massey Ferguson FA136 – SUSPENSION module: Issue With Signal Voltage From Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor During Calibration (SUSPENSION)

Issue description

The system detects that the calibration value or signal voltage from the suspended front axle position sensor (X166) is too high. The electronic control system is receiving a voltage signal that exceeds the maximum expected threshold while attempting to calibrate the front suspension system.

Check the cause

  1. Check for Overloading: Verify that the front axle is not overloaded. Remove load from the front axle, as excessive weight can alter the suspension geometry and push the sensor voltage out of range.

  2. Check Calibration Status: Verify if a suspension calibration is currently in progress or has recently failed.

  3. Inspect Wiring and Connections: Inspect the X166 Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor and its wiring harness. Check the connector for water, dust, or corrosion.

  4. Test for Shorts: Test the sensor wiring for a short circuit to power (+12V), which would artificially drive the signal voltage too high and trigger the FA136 code.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve front axle load

Park the tractor on a level surface and remove any heavy front implements or weights to relieve the load on the front axle.

  2. Locate sensor

Locate the X166 front axle position sensor on the suspended front axle assembly.

  3. Inspect and clean connector

Disconnect the wiring harness. Clean the connector and inspect the pins for corrosion or moisture.

  4. Remove failed sensor

If the wiring harness tests good (no shorts to power) but the sensor continues to output an out-of-range high voltage, the sensor itself has failed internally and must be removed.

  5. Install new sensor

Install the new front axle position sensor. Ensure the sensor housing is properly sealed and the connector is seated tightly to prevent future moisture and dust intrusion.

  6. Recalibrate suspension

Perform a suspension calibration routine using the tractor's terminal or a dealer diagnostic tool to clear the FA136 code and restore automatic steering and suspension functions.
