Massey Ferguson M14 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Low Amp Draw

Issue description

A 'Low Amp Draw' condition typically indicates high resistance or an open circuit in the solenoid circuit. The system is commanding the loader valve solenoid to activate, but the electrical current (amperage) flowing through the circuit is below the minimum expected threshold. This is usually caused by a failing solenoid coil, a broken wire, or a corroded connector.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the mid-mount electro valve block and inspect the wiring harness leading to the solenoids for chafing, cuts, or pinch points.

  2. Disconnect the electrical plug at the affected solenoid and check for water ingress, dirt, or corroded/bent pins.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. An infinite reading (OL) confirms an internal open circuit in the coil. Compare the reading to a known good solenoid on the same valve block.

  4. Check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the Mid Mount Valve Module to rule out a broken wire.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the mid-mount valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Remove the Solenoid

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem.

  4. Slide Off the Coil

    Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge stem. (If the cartridge itself is leaking or sticking, the hydraulic system will need to be relieved of pressure and the cartridge unscrewed and replaced).

  5. Install the New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem. Install and tighten the retaining nut to OEM torque specs.

  6. Reconnect

    Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather-pack seal clicks firmly into place.

  7. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (or the dash interface, if supported) to clear the M14 / 0B.X.14 DTC. Test loader functions for proper operation.
