Massey Ferguson M18 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value
Issue description
The sensor responsible for monitoring the physical position of the hydraulic spool valve is sending an incorrect, erratic, or out-of-range voltage signal to the control unit.

Check the cause
Check the hydraulic fluid and filters for contamination or blockages that could cause the spool valve to stick mechanically.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connection at the spool position sensor for dirty, worn terminals, open circuits, or short circuits to ground.
Use a diagnostic tool (AGCO EDT or Win Metadiag) to monitor live data, comparing the spool position sensor value against the joystick flow percentage.
Check for accompanying calibration codes (e.g., 0B.00.22 or 0B.00.23) which indicate the system may need a software recalibration rather than a parts replacement.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic joysticks/levers to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent short circuits and to prepare the module for a reset.
Locate the Valve
Locate the affected electro-hydraulic spool valve block (often the mid-mount valve for loaders or the rear remote stack).
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the wiring harness from the spool position sensor. Unbolt/unscrew the sensor from the valve body.
Install the New Sensor
Fit the replacement sensor (ensure any O-rings or seals are lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid) and tighten to the OEM torque specification.
Reconnect
Plug the wiring harness back in and reconnect the battery.
Calibrate the Valve
You must perform a spool valve calibration using a compatible diagnostic tool. This allows the control module to learn the new sensor's neutral, fully open, and fully closed voltage values.
Parts you might need
(2)Spool Position Sensor / Electro Valve Solenoid
AGCO/Massey Ferguson does not always sell the spool position sensor as a standalone part; it may be integrated into the Spool Valve / Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid assembly.
Generic spool valve seals / valve seal/repair kit
S.42142Sparex Part. May be needed if the sensor cannot be sourced individually for your specific valve block.
