Massey Ferguson P213 – HITCH: Park Brake Activated Solenoid High Amp Draw Dyna 6 (HITCH)
Issue description
The electronic control unit has detected an abnormally high electrical current (amperage) draw on the circuit for the solenoid responsible for activating the Park Brake (part of the ParkLock system). A high amp draw is typically caused by a short circuit to ground, a short circuit to +12V, or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the Wiring Harness: Trace the wiring from the HITCH controller to the Park Brake Activated Solenoid on the transmission valve block. Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted areas that could cause a short to ground or a short to another power wire.
Check the Connector: Disconnect the electrical plug at the solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage that could bridge the connection and cause a short.
Test the Solenoid Coil Resistance: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. A reading of zero or near-zero ohms confirms the coil is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Test the Circuit: With the solenoid disconnected, turn the ignition on and test the harness side for a short to ground or a short to +12V. If a short is present in the harness, the wiring must be repaired before replacing the solenoid to prevent damaging the new part.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the ParkLock valve block on the transmission housing. Identify the Park Brake Activated Solenoid.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove the Coil
Remove the retaining nut or clip at the top of the solenoid valve stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system to replace just the coil, preventing fluid loss).
Install the New Coil
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip. Do not overtighten.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes and Test
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. Start the tractor and test the ParkLock system by engaging and disengaging the park brake to ensure proper operation and verify that code P213 does not return.
