Massey Ferguson P223 – HITCH: Park Brake Switch Not Closing When Park Brake Disengaged Dyna 6 (HITCH)
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the ParkLock status switch (designated as component X674 in OEM wiring diagrams) is locked in the open position. When the operator disengages the parking brake, the switch fails to close, meaning the system does not recognize that the brake has been released.

Check the cause
Inspect the mechanical linkage of the park brake to ensure it is fully disengaging and physically actuating the switch when released. Debris or a seized linkage can prevent the switch from closing.
Locate the ParkLock status switch (X674), disconnect it, and use a multimeter to test for continuity. It should show an open circuit when the brake is engaged and a closed circuit when disengaged.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the X674 switch for broken wires, chafing, or an open circuit between the switch and the HITCH module.
Check the adjacent ParkLock wear switch (X673) to ensure the issue isn't related to excessive wear in the ParkLock mechanism itself.
Repair steps
Locate the Switch
Locate the ParkLock status switch (X674) on the transmission housing/park brake assembly.
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Remove the Switch
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the X674 switch. Unthread or unbolt the defective switch from its mounting bracket.
Install the New Part
Install the replacement Park Brake Switch. If the switch relies on a threaded body for adjustment, ensure it is threaded to the correct depth so the mechanical linkage properly depresses the plunger when the brake is released.
Reconnect and Test
Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes
Turn the key on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the P223 fault code. Engage and disengage the park brake several times to ensure the code does not return and the dashboard indicator functions correctly.
