Massey Ferguson P224 – HITCH module: Park Brake Switch Not Opening When Park Brake Engaged Dyna 6 (HITCH)

The electronic control system expects the park brake switch circuit to open (break continuity) when the parking brake is mechanically engaged. However, the controller is detecting that the circuit remains closed. This typically points to a stuck switch, a short circuit in the wiring harness, or a misadjusted switch mechanism.

   Inspect the physical park brake lever and the switch mechanism for dirt, debris, or a broken spring preventing the switch from physically opening.

   Disconnect the electrical connector and perform a switch continuity test using a multimeter (should be closed when released, open when engaged).

   Trace the wiring harness from the switch back to the HITCH module/CCM, looking for rubbed-through insulation causing a short to ground or short to voltage.

   Inspect the switch connector and the module pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a flat surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and chock the wheels to prevent rolling.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the park brake switch. Depending on the exact model, this may be located directly under the handbrake lever assembly in the cab, or it may be an indirect pressure switch/sensor mounted on the transmission housing.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Unbolt or unscrew the faulty switch from its mounting bracket.

   Install the New Part

   Install the replacement switch. If it is a mechanical lever switch, ensure it is adjusted properly so that the lever fully depresses/releases the plunger when actuated.

   Reconnect and Clear

   Plug the electrical connector back in. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the P224 fault code from the HITCH module.

   Test

   Engage and disengage the park brake several times while monitoring the dash or diagnostic tool to ensure the module registers the state change correctly.
