Massey Ferguson P225 – HITCH: Park Brake Wear Switch Not Opening Dyna 6 (HITCH)

The electronic control system expects the park brake wear switch to physically open its circuit during the engagement or disengagement of the park brake, but the switch is remaining closed. This condition typically points to a stuck/failed switch, a short-to-ground in the wiring harness, or excessive mechanical wear in the park brake assembly preventing the switch from actuating properly.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the park brake wear switch for rub points, damaged insulation, or a short to ground

   Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to check for continuity. Manually actuate the switch to see if the internal contacts successfully open and close

   If the switch tests fine electrically, inspect the physical park brake mechanism for wear beyond the service limit

   Secure the Tractor

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface, turn off the engine, and chock the wheels to prevent rolling, as you will be working on the park brake system.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the park brake wear switch (often cataloged as the "Park Brake Indirect Switch") on the side of the Dyna-6 transmission housing near the park brake assembly.

   Disconnect and Remove

   Unplug the electrical connector from the switch. Unscrew/unbolt the switch from the transmission housing.

   Replace or Repair

   If the switch is faulty, install the new OEM replacement switch. If the switch is functional but the brake components are worn, the transmission park brake mechanism/discs will need to be serviced or replaced according to the service manual.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness, remove the wheel chocks, and use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's dashboard diagnostic menu to clear the P225 fault code. Test the park brake engagement to ensure the code does not return.
