Massey Ferguson P52 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid High Amp Draw
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting an abnormally high electrical current (amperage) flowing through the circuit that controls the Park Brake Release Solenoid. This typically points to a short circuit, either internally within the solenoid coil or a short-to-ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness from the TRANS1 controller to the Park Brake Release Solenoid (Y7) for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or melted insulation.
Disconnect the harness at the solenoid and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, water ingress, or signs of arcing/melting.
Perform a coil resistance test using a digital multimeter across the two terminals of the solenoid coil. Extremely low resistance (near 0 ohms) indicates an internal short.
Perform a harness short test with the solenoid disconnected by testing the power supply wire for continuity to ground. Continuity to the chassis indicates a shorted wiring harness.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Securely chock the wheels to prevent the machine from rolling while working on the park brake system.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission valve block and identify the Park Brake Release Solenoid (Y7).
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent accidental shorting during the repair.
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical plug. Remove the retaining nut or clip at the end of the solenoid stem and slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge.
Install the New Solenoid
Slide the new solenoid coil over the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic checks revealed a chafed wire rather than a bad solenoid, cut out the damaged section of wire, solder in a new section, and seal it with marine-grade heat shrink tubing.
Test
Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes via the diagnostic interface, and cycle the park brake to ensure the P52 code does not return and the brake releases properly.
