P53

Massey Ferguson P53 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid Low Amp Draw Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The system has detected a "Low Amp Draw" on the circuit for the Park Brake Release Solenoid. A low amperage draw typically indicates high electrical resistance or a partial/complete open circuit. When the controller commands the solenoid to release the park brake, the solenoid coil is not pulling the expected amount of electrical current, meaning it may fail to actuate the hydraulic valve to release the brake.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the TRANS1 module and the Park Brake Release Solenoid for chafed wires, broken wires, or corrosion inside the weather-pack connector.

  2. Disconnect the solenoid and measure the resistance (Ohms) across the solenoid coil pins using a multimeter to check for an internal open circuit or high resistance.

  3. Verify that the solenoid is receiving proper command voltage and has a clean ground path when the park brake release is commanded by the TRANS1 module.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Chock the wheels, as you will be working on the park brake system. Ensure the engine is off and battery power is disconnected.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the Park Brake Release Solenoid on the Dyna VT transmission hydraulic valve block (usually located on the side or top of the transmission housing).

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (If the hydraulic cartridge itself is leaking or sticking, the entire valve assembly may need to be unthreaded and replaced).

  4. Install the New Solenoid

Slide the new solenoid coil over the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

  5. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the electrical connector. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and cycle the park brake switch.

  6. Clear Codes

Use the tractor's onboard terminal or a diagnostic tool to clear the P53 fault code from the TRANS1 module. Verify that the park brake engages and releases properly without throwing a new code.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Park Brake Release Solenoid (or Park Brake Solenoid Valve)

Reference the specific tractor model's transmission valve block diagram in the AGCO parts catalog to get the exact part number for your machine's serial number. Ensure you are ordering the solenoid specifically for the Dyna VT transmission block.
