Massey Ferguson R12 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid Short Circuit/ High Amps (HITCH)
Issue description
The tractor's electronic control system has detected that the electrical circuit controlling the rear linkage lifting (raise) solenoid valve (X27) is experiencing a short circuit or is drawing an abnormally high amount of electrical current.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the rear linkage lifting solenoid valve (X27) wiring harness for chafing, melted insulation, or exposed wires that could be shorting to the tractor chassis.
Disconnect the solenoid plug and check for water ingress, dirt, or corrosion across the pins, which can cause a short or high resistance.
Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter across the pins of the raise solenoid coil. If the resistance is near zero, the solenoid is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Perform a harness continuity test to ground with the solenoid and the Linkage Controller disconnected to ensure the short isn't in the wiring itself.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and engage the battery cut-off switch (or disconnect the negative battery terminal) to protect the electrical system.
Access the Valve
Locate the rear linkage lifting solenoid (X27) on the hydraulic control block at the rear of the tractor. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid
Depending on the specific valve block design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the electromagnetic coil off, or unthread the entire electrovalve cartridge from the block. (Have a catch pan ready if removing the cartridge, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid may leak).
Install the New Part
Slide the new coil onto the stem or thread the new electrovalve into the block. Torque to the manufacturer's specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery. Use the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) or the tractor's dashboard diagnostic menu to clear the R12 fault code. Start the tractor and test the rear hitch raise/lower functions to verify the repair.
