Massey Ferguson R16 – Rear Hitch Module: Rear Hitch Module Low Supply Voltage (HITCH)
Issue description
The electronic control unit responsible for operating the rear linkage (EHR control unit or Electronic Hitch Control) is receiving a voltage supply that is below its required operating threshold. When this occurs, the module may fail to operate the rear hitch properly, lose calibration, or shut down to protect the internal circuitry.

Check the cause
Verify battery voltage is at least 12.6V at rest and alternator is charging correctly.
Inspect battery terminals and chassis ground connections for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
Check the fuse box for blown fuses or failing relays that supply power to the EHR/Rear Hitch Module.
Disconnect the Rear Hitch Module main wiring harness and inspect connector pins for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.
Perform a voltage drop test at the power supply pins of the module's connector with the ignition ON to check for high resistance.
Repair steps
Secure the Tractor
Park on a level surface, lower the rear hitch to the ground (if possible to relieve hydraulic pressure), turn off the engine, and remove the key.
Resolve Power Supply Issues
If the diagnostic checks revealed a weak battery, faulty alternator, or blown fuse, replace the affected component.
Repair Wiring
If a voltage drop was found between the battery and the module connector, trace the wiring harness to locate the chafe, break, or corroded ground. Splice and repair the damaged wire or clean the ground terminal.
Clean Connectors
If moisture or light corrosion was found in the module connector, clean it thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting.
Replace the Module (If Necessary)
If the wiring harness delivers full battery voltage to the module but the R16 code persists, the EHR control unit has an internal fault. Remove the defective module and install the replacement.
Recalibrate the Hitch
After restoring proper voltage or replacing the module, you must perform the EHR lever calibration procedure. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool, and test the raise/lower functions of the rear linkage.
