Massey Ferguson R23 – HITCH / EHR (Electronic Hitch Control / Electro-Hydraulic Remote): Rear Hitch Depth Control Dial Signal Voltage Issue

The electronic control unit is receiving an incorrect, out-of-range, or missing voltage signal from the depth control dial (a potentiometer/thumb wheel) located on the tractor's armrest or side console. This dial is responsible for setting the working depth of the rear 3-point hitch.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the depth control dial on the armrest or side console for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafed wires.

   Disconnect the potentiometer, turn the key ON, and verify the sensor is receiving a 5V reference voltage and a solid ground from the EHR module.

   Check the signal wire for continuity between the dial's connector and the EHR module, ensuring it is not shorted to ground or power.

   Perform a potentiometer sweep test by measuring resistance (Ohms) while slowly turning the dial. Resistance should change smoothly (e.g., 1650 ohms at high depth to 560 ohms at low depth) without dead spots.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Control Console

   Carefully remove the trim panels on the armrest or the right-hand side console to expose the underside of the hitch control switch cluster.

   Remove the Faulty Dial

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the depth control potentiometer. Remove the retaining screws or plastic locking tabs securing the dial assembly to the console panel.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the new depth control dial into the console and secure it with the retaining hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks firmly into place.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the console trim panels and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Because the EHR module relies on precise voltage parameters, you will likely need to perform a rear hitch calibration procedure using the tractor's dashboard diagnostic menu or an AGCO dealer service tool.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the R23 fault code from the system and test the 3-point hitch through its full range of motion to verify the repair.
