Massey Ferguson R31 – HITCH controller: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Left Draft Pin (HITCH)
Issue description
The electronic draft control (EDC) system is receiving faulty or no feedback from the left-side load sensing pin, which is critical for monitoring the load on the three-point hitch and maintaining precise implement depth.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the left draft pin sensor (Sensor X32) and the Linkage controller for corrosion, moisture, or physical damage.
Use a multimeter or dealer diagnostic software (like Wintest) to check the voltage signal from the sensor for an open circuit, a short, or an illogical/incorrect voltage return when load is applied to the hitch.
Ensure the draft pin itself is not physically bound, heavily worn, or damaged by extreme forces, which could skew the internal strain gauge readings.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Lower the hydraulic lift arms completely to the ground so there is no load or pressure on the hitch components.
Disconnect Wiring
Locate the load sensing pin connectors (typically routed to the top of the hydraulic lift cover, accessible from the rear of the tractor) and disconnect the faulty left pin.
Remove Guards
Remove any wiring protection guards covering the pin.
Remove the Pin
Remove the locking screws or retaining bolts securing the draft pin, and slide the old pin out.
Install New Pin
Insert the replacement load sensing pin, secure it with the locking hardware, and reattach the wiring protection guards.
Reconnect
Plug the new sensor's connector back into the tractor's harness.
Calibration
Perform an EDC / Linkage calibration procedure so the Linkage controller can learn the new sensor's zero-load reference point.
