Massey Ferguson R35 – HITCH controller: Issue With Signal From Hitch Transport Dampening Button (HITCH)

The controller detects an invalid electrical signal from the Hitch Transport Dampening Button (originating from the X145 - PTO/linkage console), which usually indicates an open circuit, a short circuit, or a switch that is mechanically stuck in the pressed position.

   Inspect the Hitch Transport Dampening (ATC) button on the right-hand PTO/linkage console for physical damage, sticking, or dirt/debris lodged around the button.

   Access the underside of the X145 PTO/linkage console and inspect the wiring harness and connectors for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

   Using a multimeter, test the switch for proper continuity when pressed and released.

   Verify that the reference voltage from the HITCH controller is reaching the switch and that the signal returns correctly when the button is actuated.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Console

   Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panels surrounding the right-hand ELC "mouse" and PTO/linkage console (X145) to expose the wiring underneath.

   Disconnect the Switch

   Locate the electrical connector for the Hitch Transport Dampening Button and disconnect it.

   Replace the Component

   If the button fails the continuity test or is physically broken, remove the retaining clips/screws and replace the switch. Note: On some models, the buttons are integrated into a single printed circuit board within the X145 console; if the switch cannot be separated, the entire PTO/linkage console assembly must be replaced.

   Reassemble

   Plug the wiring harness into the new switch/console. Ensure the connector clicks securely into place. Reinstall the console trim panels.

   Test the System

   Reconnect the battery and turn on the ignition. Press the Active Transport Control button; verify that the red LED indicator illuminates (indicating the system is active) and that the R35 fault code has cleared from the dash display.
