Massey Ferguson T102 – TRANS1: Reverse Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue

Triggered when the controller detects a variable value between two different current measurements on the X557 Reverse Solenoid Valve circuit, indicating a failing solenoid coil or a wiring issue.

   Ensure the tractor is securely parked and cannot move during testing, as you will be working with directional clutch circuits.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the TRANS1 module and the X557 Reverse Solenoid Valve for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins at the connector.

   Check the X557 circuit for a short to +12V or an open circuit (intermittent shorts can cause the variable amp draw seen in T102).

   Verify if the reverse clutch solenoid is actually energizing when commanded. Measure the resistance (ohms) of the solenoid coil; if it is out of specification or fluctuates when tapped, the coil is internally failing.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the X557 Reverse Solenoid Valve on the transmission control valve block.

   Disconnect

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the solenoid.

   Remove the Faulty Part

   Remove the retaining nut/fastener holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem, and slide the coil off. If the valve cartridge itself is sticking and causing electrical overload, the entire valve may need to be unthreaded and removed.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new genuine Massey Ferguson solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it, or thread in the new complete valve assembly.

   Reconnect

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector is fully seated and locked.

   Clear and Calibrate

   Clear the T102 fault code from the TRANS1 module and perform a transmission clutch calibration via the tractor's display or diagnostic tool to ensure smooth forward/reverse engagement.
