Massey Ferguson T105 – TRANS1: Forward Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue
Issue description
The system has detected that the measured electrical current for the forward solenoid valve (X556) is greater than 40 mA above its specified/expected value. This indicates that the solenoid coil is drawing too much power, typically caused by internal coil degradation or a partial short circuit in the wiring.

Check the cause
Locate the Forward Solenoid Valve (X556) on the transmission hydraulic valve block
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the X556 solenoid for rubbed insulation, melted wires, or corrosion inside the connector that could cause a partial short
Verify the integrity of the transmission earth pins (e.g., X558 transmission earth pin) to ensure the circuit has a clean ground
Measure the resistance (Ohms) and current draw of the X556 solenoid coil using a multimeter to check if resistance is lower than OEM specification
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent accidental short circuits during the repair.
Access the Valve Block
Clean the area around the transmission valve block thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical plug from the X556 Forward Solenoid Valve. Remove the retaining nut/fasteners holding the solenoid coil or the entire cartridge valve (depending on the specific transmission variant) and carefully extract it.
Install the New Part
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid. Insert it into the valve block and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes and Test
Use a diagnostic tool to clear the T105 code from the TRANS1 module. Start the tractor and test the forward clutch engagement to ensure the code does not return and the tractor moves smoothly.
