Massey Ferguson T107 – TRANS1: Forward Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue

Issue description

The system has detected that the current measured on the forward clutch solenoid valve (X556) is exceeding the maximum possible limit of 1.4 Amps. This excessive amp draw typically indicates a short circuit—either an internal short within the solenoid coil itself or a short to ground in the wiring harness supplying the valve.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the X556 Forward Solenoid Valve for chafed insulation, melted wires, or areas where the harness might be shorting to the tractor chassis/ground.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the forward clutch solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid pins. A reading of near-zero ohms indicates an internal short.

  3. Perform a swap test by swapping the forward solenoid (X556) and the reverse solenoid (X557) or their electrical connections. If the fault code changes to T108, the solenoid is faulty. If it remains T107, the issue lies within the wiring harness or the TRANS1 controller.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor for repair

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Locate valve block

    Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing.

  3. Identify solenoid

    Identify the Forward Clutch Solenoid (X556).

  4. Clean area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid and valve block to prevent dirt or debris from contaminating the transmission fluid during removal.

  5. Disconnect wiring

    Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the solenoid.

  6. Remove faulty valve

    Remove the retaining hardware (bolts/screws) holding the solenoid in place and carefully extract the faulty valve.

  7. Install new solenoid

    Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid and insert it into the valve block.

  8. Reinstall hardware and reconnect wiring

    Reinstall and tighten the retaining hardware to OEM specifications, then reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Clear codes and test drive

    Clear the fault codes from the TRANS1 module and test drive the tractor, shifting between forward and reverse to ensure smooth engagement and verify the code does not return.
