Massey Ferguson T110 – TRANS1: Reverse Clutch Solenoid Open Circuit

The transmission controller monitors the electrical current drawn by the transmission solenoids. This code is triggered when the measured current on the reverse clutch solenoid circuit drops below 13 mA in relation to the specified value. This indicates a complete break in the electrical path (an open circuit), which prevents the solenoid from energizing and engaging the reverse clutch.

   Visually inspect the reverse clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block and its wiring harness for chafing, rodent damage, or severed wires.

   Disconnect the solenoid connector and check for pushed-out pins, water ingress, or corrosion that could cause an open circuit.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the reverse clutch solenoid with a multimeter (a reading of 'OL' indicates an internally broken coil).

   Check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the TRANS1 controller pins.

   Verify the controller is sending the appropriate voltage to the solenoid when the reverse shuttle is commanded.

   Isolate the Circuit

   Turn off the tractor's battery disconnect switch.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire in the harness, splice and seal the wire using marine-grade heat shrink tubing, or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

   Replace the Solenoid

   Clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty reverse clutch solenoid. Unbolt/unscrew the solenoid cartridge from the transmission valve block. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Install the new solenoid and torque it to the manufacturer's specification. Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the T110 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

   Clutch Calibration

   Because a transmission clutch component was replaced or had its electrical feed interrupted, you must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure (often initiated via the tractor's dash display or diagnostic software) to ensure smooth engagement.
