Massey Ferguson T112 – Transmission Controller (TRANS1): Reverse Clutch Solenoid Low Amps (TRANS1)
Issue description
The transmission controller is measuring a current draw (amperage) from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit that is lower than the specified limit. This indicates the circuit is open, shorted to ground, has lost its power supply, or the solenoid coil itself has failed internally. As a result, the transmission cannot properly engage the reverse clutch.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the TRANS1 controller to the reverse clutch solenoid for chafed wires, breaks, or shorts to the chassis ground.
Disconnect the reverse clutch solenoid connector and check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture inside the plug.
Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter across the pins of the reverse clutch solenoid (an infinite/OL reading indicates an open internal coil and a dead solenoid).
Verify that the solenoid is receiving a voltage command from the controller when the shuttle lever is moved to the reverse position.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park lock, and turn off the engine.
Locate the transmission control valve block and identify the reverse clutch solenoid.
Typically located on the side of the transmission housing.
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic system.
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the reverse clutch solenoid.
If the diagnostic checks revealed wiring damage, splice and repair the broken wires or replace the damaged connector pigtail.
If the solenoid itself failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut or bolt securing the solenoid to the valve block.
Carefully pull the old solenoid cartridge out of the valve block.
Lubricate the O-rings on the new reverse clutch solenoid with clean hydraulic/transmission fluid.
Insert the new solenoid into the valve block, ensuring it seats fully, and tighten the retaining fastener to OEM torque specs.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear the T112 fault code using a diagnostic tool and test the tractor's forward/reverse shuttle operation to confirm the repair.
