Massey Ferguson T114 – TRANS1: Issue With Speed Sensor Values

Engine speed sensor > 0 km/h (0 mile/h) No speed detected and actual intermediate speed is > 0 km/h (0 mile/h). The controller is receiving an active signal from the engine speed sensor and the intermediate speed sensor, but it is not detecting any theoretical forward speed.

   Identify the Engine Speed Sensor location (X481 for Dyna-4/6 transmissions, X25 for Dyna-VT transmissions)

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the X481 or X25 sensor for chafed wires, loose pins, or corrosion

   Check for related electrical fault codes (e.g., D141 or D142) which indicate a wiring harness short rather than a failed sensor

   Using a diagnostic terminal, compare live data for the Engine Speed Sensor (X481/X25), Theoretical Forward Speed Sensor (X482), and Intermediate Speed Sensor (X483) to identify mathematically impossible combinations of movement

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the X481 (or X25) Engine Speed Sensor on the transmission housing.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the sensor to the transmission casing.

   Inspection

   Carefully pull the sensor out. Inspect the magnetic tip of the old sensor for excessive metal shavings, which could indicate internal transmission wear rather than just a sensor failure.

   Installation

   Insert the new Engine Speed Sensor into the port. Secure it with the retaining bolt and tighten to the OEM torque specification.

   Reconnection

   Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear and Test

   Turn the ignition on, clear the T114 fault code from the TRANS1 module using the tractor's diagnostic interface, and test drive the tractor to ensure the transmission shifts properly and the code does not return.
