T116

Massey Ferguson T116 – TRANS: Clutch Pedal Sensor Signal Voltage Issue

Issue description

This fault code indicates a signal error from the clutch pedal potentiometer (sensor X68). The Transmission Control Unit logs this code when the signal voltage falls outside its expected operating range, or when there is a mismatch between the sensors—specifically, if the clutch pedal potentiometer signal reads greater than 0% while the Bottom of Clutch (BOC) switch reads 0 V.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness connections to the clutch pedal potentiometer (X68) for dust, moisture, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Test the wiring for a short circuit to ground or a short circuit to +12V.

  3. Verify the sensor receives an input voltage of 10-30V and returns a smooth, linear output signal between 0.5V and 4.5V as the pedal is depressed.

  4. Check the Bottom of Clutch (BOC) switch in the pedal box to ensure it is functioning correctly and transitioning states when the pedal is fully depressed.

Repair steps

  1. Access the pedal box

Locate the clutch pedal assembly inside the cab. The potentiometer and BOC switch are mounted directly to the pedal box.

  2. Disconnect the battery

Always disconnect the battery before replacing electronic transmission control sensors.

  3. Remove the faulty sensor

Unplug the electrical connector from the clutch pedal potentiometer. Unbolt and remove the faulty sensor from its mounting bracket.

  4. Install the new sensor

Mount the replacement potentiometer in the original location. Ensure the mechanical linkage to the pedal is properly aligned so the sensor sweeps its full range without binding.

  5. Reconnect wiring

Plug the electrical harness back in, ensuring the connector is fully seated and locked.

  6. Perform clutch calibration

Perform a clutch pedal calibration via the tractor's dashboard diagnostic menu or dealer software. This teaches the transmission controller the new sensor's exact top and bottom voltage limits, clearing the code and fixing harsh or jumpy clutch engagement.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Clutch Pedal Potentiometer

    3784361M1

Direct OEM replacement for 54-87 series tractors. Output signal 0.5 - 4.5V. Crosses to Claas 7700062070 and AGCO 424A17A090.

  • Bottom of Clutch (BOC) Switch

Replace only if diagnostics prove the switch has failed rather than the potentiometer.
