T122

Massey Ferguson T122 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS1): Transmission Temperature Signal Out Of Range

Issue description

The transmission hydraulic oil temperature sensor (X19) is registering an extreme value that falls outside of its normal operating parameters (above 150 °C or below -24 °C).

Applies to these machines

  • 7616
  • 5612
  • 7622
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7614
  • 5611
  • 7615
  • 5610
  • 5613
  • 7620
  • 5609
  • 7618
  • 5608
  • 7619
  • 7626
  • 7624

Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission oil level to ensure it is correct, as low fluid can cause rapid overheating

  2. Inspect the tractor's radiators and oil coolers for blockages (dust, chaff, debris) that could be preventing proper cooling

  3. Locate the transmission hydraulic oil temperature sensor (X19) and inspect the wiring harness and connector for damage, corrosion, open circuits, or a short circuit to ground or +12V

  4. Test the sensor's (X19) resistance to determine if it has failed internally and is sending a false extreme temperature reading to the TRANS1 module

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Cooling System

If the radiators are blocked, thoroughly clean them using compressed air to restore airflow.

  2. Correct Fluid Levels

Top up the transmission hydraulic oil if it is found to be low.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or corroded connector at the X19 sensor, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.

  4. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is intact but the sensor is reading out of range (or if the transmission is physically cold but the sensor reads >150 °C), replace the transmission hydraulic oil temperature sensor.

  5. Module Verification

If the sensor and wiring are both confirmed good, the fault may lie within the transmission module itself, which will require dealer-level software diagnostics.
