T128

Massey Ferguson T128 – Autotronic 5: Transmission Internal Software Issue (TRANS)

Issue description

Program without parameters or calibration, or EEPROM failure. The transmission controller has lost its programmed parameters/calibration data, or the internal EEPROM memory chip has physically failed and can no longer save data, causing the tractor to restrict itself to a default or limp mode.

Check the cause

  1. Check system voltage: Verify that the battery voltage and the electrical power supply to the Autotronic 5 controller (+APC ignition) are stable and not dropping below 7V during cranking.

  2. Check for accompanying codes: Look for code T129 or T130, which point to power supply issues rather than a dead controller.

  3. Attempt recalibration: Attempt to rewrite the parameters to the EEPROM before replacing any modules.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the diagnostic tool (e.g., Wintest or dealer equivalent) to the tractor.

  2. Execute programming and calibration

Execute a complete transmission programming procedure, parameter adjustment, and calibration.

  3. Perform PowerShuttle calibration

    Specifically, perform the PowerShuttle calibration.

  4. Cycle key

Cycle the key to allow the Autotronic 5 controller to save the new parameters to the EEPROM.

  5. Verify calibration

Turn the tractor back on. If the calibration holds and the code clears, the issue was a software corruption anomaly.

  6. Replace controller

If the EEPROM operation fails immediately, or if the T128 code returns upon the next startup, the internal memory of the Autotronic 5 controller has permanently failed. You must remove and replace the Autotronic 5 controller.

  7. Program new controller

Install the new controller and perform a full parameter download and PowerShuttle calibration to marry it to the tractor.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Autotronic 5 Controller / Transmission ECU
