Massey Ferguson T129 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Transmission Internal Software Issue
Issue description
This code indicates that the transmission controller has lost its calibration parameters, experienced a software glitch, or suffered memory corruption. This is frequently caused by a severe voltage drop (electrical power supply dropping below 7V while the ignition is on) or an open/short circuit in the power supply to the module.

Check the cause
Test the battery, alternator, and electrical supply to the transmission controller for low voltage (look for an accompanying T130 code).
Check the wiring harness and connectors going to the Autotronic/TRANS module for open circuits or short circuits to +12V or ground.
Verify that the CAN bus lines are intact and communicating properly with the Engine ECU and Dashboard.
Connect the Massey Ferguson Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to determine if the transmission parameters are simply uncalibrated or if the software is entirely corrupted.
Repair steps
Resolve Voltage Issues
If battery voltage is low or the alternator is failing, replace or charge the battery and repair any wiring faults. Do not attempt to flash the ECU with unstable voltage.
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Hook up the Massey Ferguson EDT to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Check for Software Updates
Check the AGCO EDT database for any available software updates or patches for the transmission controller.
Reflash / Reprogram the TCU
Reflash the Autotronic 5 / Transmission ECU with the latest software. If the module is completely bricked and requires replacement, the new module will arrive blank and must be programmed with the tractor's specific serial number using an Autotronic programming kit.
Perform Calibration
Once the software is updated or restored, perform a full transmission calibration (clutch bite points, range shifts, and work/reverse clutches) as the previous parameters will have been wiped.
Clear Codes
Clear the T129 fault code and test drive the tractor to ensure smooth shifting and no returning codes.
Parts you might need
(4)Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / Autotronic 5 Controller
4301386M94Fitment varies heavily by exact model, cab configuration, and transmission type (Dyna-4 vs Dyna-6). Always verify the exact part number with the tractor's serial number. A new Autotronic module comes blank and must be programmed prior to installation.
