Massey Ferguson T132 – Autotronic 5 Transmission Control Unit (TRANS1): Issue With Range 1 Solenoid Valve (TRANS1)

The transmission controller has detected an open circuit or a short circuit to +12V or 0V on the circuit for the Range 1 solenoid valve (L52 or X484).

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the Range 1 solenoid (L52 / X484) on the transmission control valve block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or debris.

   Test the circuit with a multimeter between the Autotronic 5 module and the solenoid connector for continuity, ensuring there is no short to ground (0V) or short to power (+12V).

   Perform a coil resistance test across the pins of the Range 1 solenoid valve. A healthy coil should read approximately 10 Ohms; an open or shorted reading indicates internal failure.

   Verify consistency between the physical Range 1 switch in the cab and the solenoid valve to ensure no conflicting CAN messages are being sent.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure if required by your specific model's manual.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the transmission shift cover/valve block. The Range 1 solenoid is grouped with Ranges 2, 3, and 4 (L52, L53, L54, L55).

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the Range 1 solenoid valve (L52).

   Removal

   Remove the retaining screws and the flange holding the solenoid valve in place. Pull the solenoid valve straight out of the valve block. Be prepared for a small amount of hydraulic oil to leak; have a catch pan ready.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new valve into the block, ensuring it seats fully without pinching the O-rings.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the flange and tighten the retaining screws to the specified torque in your manual. Reconnect the electrical harness.

7. 7

   Testing

   Clear the T132 fault code from the Autotronic 5 module. Start the tractor and cycle the transmission through all ranges to ensure smooth shifting and verify the code does not return.
