Massey Ferguson T137 – TRANS1: Issue With Speed Sensor Values
Issue description
The system detects an implausible reading or a discrepancy between the engine speed and the intermediate speed within the PowerShuttle and Powershift module. The controller is receiving conflicting rotational data, meaning either the engine speed sensor or the transmission intermediate speed sensor is failing, out of adjustment, or has a wiring fault.

Check the cause
Software Diagnostics: Use the Massey Ferguson Wintest diagnostic software to monitor the live data feeds from the engine speed, intermediate speed, and forward speed sensors to identify which specific sensor is dropping the signal.
Resistance Test: For the inductive transmission speed sensors, check the resistance across the sensor pins when the tractor is stopped. A healthy sensor should read approximately 450 Ohms (± 20 Ohms).
Voltage Test: Verify that the sensor outputs an alternating voltage when the internal ring gear is rotating.
Wiring & Harness Check: Inspect the sensor wiring harness (Pin 1: Signal, Pin 2: Earth) for open circuits, short circuits, or corrosion at the connectors.
Air Gap Check: A loose counter-nut can cause the sensor to back out, increasing the air gap and causing signal loss. Verify the sensor is seated to the correct depth.
Repair steps
Locate sensor
Locate the intermediate/theoretical forward speed sensor (typically located above the differential ring gear on the transmission housing).
Remove old sensor
Disconnect the electrical connector and loosen the counter-nut to remove the old sensor.
Apply thread sealant
Apply a small amount of thread sealant (OEM recommends Loctite 5922) to the threads of the new sensor.
Install new sensor
Carefully screw the sensor in fully until it gently bottoms out against the internal gear.
Adjust air gap
Unscrew the sensor by exactly ¾ of a turn to establish the correct air gap.
Tighten counter-nut
Hold the sensor in place and tighten the counter-nut to approximately 6 Nm.
Reconnect and clear code
Reconnect the electrical harness and clear the T137 fault code using the diagnostic tool.
