Massey Ferguson T142 – TRANS: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply

The transmission control system has detected a break in the electrical circuit (an open circuit) or a loss of power supply to the solenoid valve responsible for engaging the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch.

   Visually inspect the X7 Rear PTO clutch solenoid valve electrical connector for corrosion, backed-out pins, or water ingress.

   Perform a harness continuity test on the power and ground wires between the TRANS controller and the solenoid to check for broken wires or chafing.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the X7 solenoid coil (an 'OL' reading indicates the internal coil has failed open).

   With the tractor running and the rear PTO switch engaged, verify that the TRANS controller is sending a +12V signal to the solenoid connector.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the transmission system if required by your specific model's service manual.

   Locate the X7 Rear PTO clutch solenoid valve on the transmission hydraulic control block.

   Usually located on the side or top of the transmission housing.

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the solenoid.

   Thoroughly clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic circuit.

   Remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem (if replacing just the coil) or unscrew the entire cartridge valve assembly from the block.

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid.

   Install the new solenoid valve and tighten to the OEM torque specification.

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

    Turn on the tractor and clear the T142 fault code using a diagnostic tool (or cycle the battery power).

    Test the rear PTO engagement to ensure the fault does not return and the PTO operates smoothly.
