Massey Ferguson T143 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / TRANS / TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna 4 (TRANS)
Issue description
The Rear PTO clutch solenoid valve (designated as component X7 or 6V1) has a short circuit to 0 V (ground), preventing the transmission controller from properly engaging the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Rear PTO clutch solenoid valve (X7) on the transmission valve block. Look for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or melted loom that could be grounding out against the tractor chassis or transmission case.
Harness Continuity Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the X7 solenoid. Use a digital multimeter to check the power supply wire for continuity to ground. If there is continuity to ground while unplugged, the short is in the wiring harness between the TRANS module and the connector.
Solenoid Coil Resistance Test: Measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid itself. If the resistance is near zero ohms, the internal coil has shorted out and the solenoid must be replaced.
Connector Inspection: Check the TRANS module connector and the solenoid connector for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the power supply to ground.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental electrical spikes.
Locate the Valve Block
Locate the transmission hydraulic control valve block (usually mounted on the side of the transmission housing). Identify the Rear PTO clutch solenoid valve (Component X7 / 6V1).
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical plug from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Note: If the hydraulic cartridge itself is leaking or sticking, you may need to unthread the entire cartridge valve from the block. Have a catch pan ready for hydraulic fluid).
Install the New Solenoid
Slide the new solenoid coil over the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery. Connect a diagnostic tool (such as the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool / FenDias) to clear the T143 fault code. Start the tractor and engage the rear PTO switch to verify that the PTO engages smoothly and the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(1)Rear PTO Clutch Solenoid Valve / PTO Solenoid Control Valve
QTP-56729Ensure the replacement solenoid matches your specific transmission type (Dyna-4 vs. Dyna-6). When replacing transmission hydraulic controls, it is highly recommended to use genuine AGCO/Massey Ferguson parts to ensure correct hydraulic pressure regulation and prevent premature clutch pack wear.
