Massey Ferguson T150 – TRANS1: Braking pressure outside of range during 50 km/h high pressure braking unit use.

Issue description

Triggered when the transmission controller detects that the pneumatic/hydraulic pressure in the high-pressure braking system is either too high, too low, or fluctuating outside of the expected operating parameters while the tractor is utilizing the 50 km/h braking circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Check for Related Fault Codes: Look for accompanying TRANS1 codes that pinpoint the failure (T151, T152, T153, T165, T166).

  2. Inspect Sensor X495: Locate the X495 Brake Sensor (50 km/h) on the high-pressure braking unit. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafed wires causing a short to ground or +12V.

  3. Check for Pneumatic/Air Leaks: Listen for audible air leaks in the trailer brake/air supply system. A leak will cause the pressure to drop out of range, triggering T150.

  4. Verify Sensor Power Supply: Ensure the voltage converter is supplying the correct reference voltage to the sensor (a failure here may also log code T149).

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park lock, and turn off the engine. Safely bleed all air/hydraulic pressure from the high-pressure braking system and air reservoirs before servicing.

  2. Access the Sensor

    Locate the X495 pressure sensor on the air supply/high-pressure braking valve block.

  3. Test the Circuit

    Disconnect the sensor. Using a multimeter, verify that the connector is receiving the proper 5V reference and ground from the TRANS1 module.

  4. Replace the Sensor

    If the wiring is intact and the system holds pressure but the sensor reads out of range, the sensor itself has failed internally. Unthread the old X495 sensor and install the replacement.

  5. Re-pressurize and Test

    Start the tractor and allow the air compressor to build system pressure. Spray soapy water around the new sensor threads to ensure there are no leaks.

  6. Clear Codes

    Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's instrument panel sequence to clear the T150 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

  7. Road Test

    Test drive the tractor, specifically engaging the brakes at higher speeds to ensure the 50 km/h braking circuit operates smoothly without triggering the code.
